The basic gist is, this dude Aja – played by Dhanush, who, by the way, is kinda awesome – he’s a street magician from Mumbai. His mom kicks the bucket (sad face emoji), and suddenly he’s all like, “Gotta find my dad!” Which, okay, fair enough. Except, this search takes him, like, all over the freaking place. Think IKEA in Sweden. Yeah, IKEA. Talk about a culture shock, right?
Now, I gotta be honest, the plot gets a little… wonky. It’s kinda like they threw a bunch of random cool-sounding things into a blender and hit “puree.” We’re talking Swedish furniture stores (obvs!), love interests (two, I think? Maybe three? Lost count!), and a whole lot of “self-discovery.” The kind where you’re supposed to feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but sometimes it just feels…forced. Like, “Look! He’s growing as a person! Aren’t you proud?”
But, and this is a big BUT, Dhanush is legit good. He sells the whole “fish-out-of-water” thing so well. You actually *want* him to find his dad, even though the whole quest feels a little bit all over the place. Plus, the visuals are pretty cool. They got some nice shots of Europe, and the whole “magician” thing is visually appealing, even if the magic itself is kinda… meh.
And Berenice Bejo and Erin Moriarty are in it too! I mean, they’re good actresses, but honestly, their characters felt a bit…underdeveloped? Like they were just there to be pretty and give Aja a reason to, you know, *keep* journey-ing. Which, whatever, I guess.
So, should you watch it? Eh, it depends. If you’re looking for some deep, meaningful cinematic masterpiece, probably not. But if you’re bored, got a couple of hours to kill, and you’re in the mood for something a little quirky and visually appealing, then yeah, give it a shot. Just don’t expect it to change your life or anything. It’s more of a “background noise while you fold laundry” kinda movie. But with Dhanush, which always makes things better, right?
